How to Convert Excel Contacts into vCard (.vcf)?

Convert .xls file to .vcf

Exporting and Importing Contacts of your Smartphone is not a big deal. You can easily do this from the Settings option of your Contact App. But you will get it really challenging when you've to convert a simple excel file into vCard (.vcf) format and import them as your phone contacts.

If you don't have any third party tool or if you don't know the tricks then you may require few hours to save contacts on your smartphone one by one.

Just few hours ago I faced the same challenge and hopefully you will be glad to know that I've done the job! Of course it costs me nearly 2 hours to discover the trick. But you don't need to wait that long. If you face the same need, you can do this within few minutes. Let's see how . . .

Convert Excel Contacts into vCard Format | 3 Steps
  1. Convert the Excel file (.xls/ .xlsx) into CSV (.csv)
  2. Import the CSV file using Contacts - It's a default Windows Application in the previous versions of Windows. But in Windows 10, Contacts is considered as a folder.
  3. Export the contacts as vCards (.vcf) using Contacts.

Convert the Excel file into CSV - Step 1
  • Open the Excel file where your contacts are stored that you wanna convert.
  • Now Save the file as - CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)

Save file as csv

  • Now you will get a message like this.

CSV Saving Warning Message

  • Simply hit the yes button and step 1 is done!

Import CSV File using Contacts | Step 2
  • Press the Start button and type Contacts. Choose the Contacts app from the search result as shown in the image below.

Windows OS Contacts Application

  • Now you will see the Contacts folder in the screen. Hit on the Import button as shown in the image below

Contacts folder Import Option

  • Choose CSV format as shown below and hit on the Import button.

Import CSV file to Windows Contacts

Choose files to import

  • Hit on the browse button, locate your CSV file and select it.

Importing CSV to Windows Contact

  • After selecting, hit on the Next button.

Import CSV to Windows

CSV Import Mapping

  • Now you've to mark the fields which you wanna include. Choose the field type as shown in the image below.

Change Field Type while importing

  • After mapping the fields properly, hit on the finish button. And Close the dialogue box.

Fields to import

After pressing the Finish button, all of your contacts will be stored in your Contacts folder. To see these contacts, again press Start button > Type Contacts and then you will see the Contacts window as shown in the following image -

Windows Contacts sample

Here you can see that all contacts are stored with .contact extension. This format is quite useful for your Windows PC. But if you wanna get these contacts on your Smartphone, then they should be converted into vCard format. I mean Step 3 is unlocked. We've to get there now . . .

Export the Contacts as VCF  | Step 3

Make sure you're in Contacts folder or Press Start > Type Contacts > Go to the Export option >

Windows Contacts export option

  • Now choose vCards option and hit on the Export button.

Export contacts as VCF

  • You must choose a separate folder for exporting. Or you can choose your Contacts folder. Never choose desktop cause your desktop will be full with these contacts files.

Choosing a location to export

  • Press OK after choosing the export folder.

Converting contacts to vCards

  • Within few moments your contacts will be exported and you will see the following message.

Exporting process finished

Contacts with contact and vcf extension

That's it. Now you can see both type of contacts side by side. If you need to import these contacts on your Smartphone, then simply select the .vcf files and copy them in a separate folder. Then copy this folder to your phone memory or SD card.
  • Then go to your Phone Contact application
  • Find the Import option from Settings
  • Choose your Import location i.e. Phone Memory or SD Card
Finish!

Hope this will be of great use if you are in trouble to copy your excel contacts to your Phone.

Blogger Introduced Special Characters

Default option for using special characters on blogger

From now you can choose and insert your desired special characters in your blog post. Recently Blogger has added this option in its post editor. It offers several fonts and categories of special characters.

While writing a new blog post you may need some special characters. Or sometimes you may need emoticons to share your feelings with the readers. To fulfil your need, blogger has added a new feature named - Insert special characters 👌

You will get this option at the editing toolbar and it's very next to the Insert a video option. Look at the image below -

Special Characters option on blogger

Simply click on the marked icon and you will get the following dialogue box -

Using Special Characters option on post editor

Using this dialogue box you can search your required characters from different categories. You can also search a character by keyword or by name.

Another useful search method is also available - drawing. Yes! You can manually draw the your character in the blank box. And this dialogue box will automatically find the desired symbol for you.

For example, few days back, I was trying to insert a symbol in one of my posts. It is called vertical ellipsis ( ). But that time the name of this symbol was unknown to me. Then I just drew the symbol and it appears in the list. Look at the image below -

Draw and find your desired special characters

You just need to draw the symbol in the right side box. And the similar symbols will appear on the left. Isn't it really handy?!

So guys, hope this trick will be of great use for you. See you in the next topic . . .

Try out the New Themes of Blogger!!

Select your site theme among Contempo, Soho, Emporio, Notable

I was expecting some new themes from blogger for a long time. As a renowned blogging platform, blogger should have more professional themes. And finally some beautiful themes have been added to the list. Now the blogger users can choose from 11 categories of themes . . .

Previously blogger had only the following themes -
  • Simple
  • Dynamic Views
  • Picture Window
  • Awesome Inc.
  • Watermark
  • Ethereal
  • Travel

And the new categories are -
  • Contempo
  • Soho
  • Emporio
  • Notable

Each new category includes 5 variations.

How to Change Theme?

Changing your blog theme is as easy as changing your phone wallpaper. But before you make any change, you should preview it and customize the theme if necessary. You should also keep a backup your current theme

If you would like to change your theme, then follow the procedure below:
  1. Go to your blogger dashboard.
  2. Then move to the Theme (Previously it was known as Template).
  3. Here you will see the list of default themes by blogger.
  4. Now click any of them which attract you most.
  5. Now you will be able to see the preview. If you like it then hit on Apply to Blog button.
  6. Or if you need to change some parts of the theme, then hit on the Customize button and make necessary changes.
  7. After making the changes, if your site looks good, then hit on the Apply to Blog button and view your site. That's it.

Is it Necessary to Adapt the New Themes?

No, not at all. If you think that your current template is nicely designed, then you need to bring any change. But if you're now using any old blogger theme without modification, then I will suggest you to try out the new ones.

They are really gorgeous. Depending on your contents you will guess which theme looks better. You can also take suggestions from your visitors.

New themes come with some features which are not available in previous templates. Some new features are -
  • Featured Post
  • Keep reading button
  • Better position for ads
  • Great designs of Layout

Some of these features are easily found in the third party templates. But the difference is that, the third party templates are not fully compatible with blogger layout design. But these default themes are blogger's own and that's why you will no problem to work with them.

So guys, give a great look to your site . . .
